Kathryn Uhler
Kathryn (Kate) Uhler is a passionate multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriter, performer, and master educator with 25 years of experience in private and classroom teaching, and a lifetime of performing.
Kate fell in love with music at age 7 when she first started piano. Lessons stopped after a year, but she continued to teach herself, performing piano and vocal pieces at church, school, and in HS, at pageants. She began clarinet at 10, tenor saxophone at 13 for jazz band, and utilized that same tenacity to reach regional band her senior year. This led her to collegiate study of music at Millersville University where she graduated Cum Laude with a BSE in Music Education, clarinet major. While attending MU, she studied piano (with Michael Houlahan), viola (Madeleine Darmiento), and acoustic guitar, in addition to her primary instrument, clarinet.
Ms. Kate has taught in a wide variety of settings - a private school, a title 1 school, a children’s home, and private lessons at community and private schools alike. She offers curated and innovative lessons, utilizing an eclectic approach in pedagogy with the goal of providing every music student with exactly what he or she needs to be successful in their music journey. She believes learning should be fun, built on passion and tenacity, and a love of the process. Kate's teaching provides a warm and safe space for the development of self along with musical skills, and a special teacher-student bond. She believes in a foundation of a traditional classical music education with an emphasis in theory combined with fresh and creative approaches that support each individual student.
Kate has also performed in various capacities and settings. She has performed as a singer-songwriter all over Pennsylvania, especially in Berks county, like The Beer Wall and B2 Bistro. She has played violin at weddings, sang with a Bowie Tribute band at the Keswick, and played clarinet and composed music with the band Sports for Kin for a showing of Nos Feratu in Jim Thorpe. She recently wrote a song for a movie currently in production, with hopes of continuing to compose for movies in the future.
