Busy Bees

“I believe that every child is magical and loves to experience science, art, nature, and music in our beautiful little classroom.

I am so proud of our little Busy Bees community over the last few years. Families have made new friends, learned along with their little ones, and built a solid foundation for their kiddos to transition to their future schools seamlessly.”

~Jenni Shelgren, Educator

About Busy Bees

  • Established in 2021 and designed as the perfect stepping stone between play groups and drop-off preschool.

  • Supports the tremendous developmental jump that occurs socially, academically, emotionally, and physically between the ages of 18 months and 3 years old.

  • The 90-minute class mirrors the pace and structure of most 3-year-old preschool programs in our community — but with the comfort and emotional support of a caregiver by your child's side.

  • Caregivers are encouraged to move through the class alongside their children, transitioning from table to carpet to large activity room as positive role models.

  • Crafted with a balance of independent creative play and small-group instruction, which helps children experience the kinds of transitions and expectations they'll encounter in school — while still feeling safe and supported.

  • This class can get messy, in a good way! Children will paint, make play dough and oobleck, and dig in the dirt. We recommend wearing play clothes to class, and packing a change of clothes for water play days!

  • Snacks are provided — goldfish or a treat related to a theme being explored during class. We ask that you bring a drink for your child. You are welcome to bring an alternative snack.

  • Please let us know about any food allergies.

  • We love to celebrate holidays in this class!

  • We go out into the community for field trips in the fall (typically a harvest-focused location) and the spring (decided on by the group). Previous trips have included Elmwood Park Zoo and Steinmetz Family Farm.

  • This class is welcoming to all children, and we encourage those navigating developmental or behavioral challenges to join. Many families have brought OT, PT, and other therapists into class sessions to work on skills in a real classroom setting.

  • Schedule: Meets weekly from Sept through May. The studio is closed for major holidays.

  • Location: Offered at our 2nd St studio in Boyertown, PA.

  • Ages: 18 months to 3 years with a parent or caregiver

  • Class size: Classes typically have between 3 and 8 students.

  • View current schedule, pricing, and registration details for all of our early learning programs.

What Do We Do In Busy Bees?

  • Experience large motor play and obstacle courses

  • Learn important socialization skills through the gentle modeling of caregivers and the teacher

  • Explore with our senses using sensory bins and playdough

  • Build confidence so they are prepared to navigate school on their own in the future

  • Do science experiments

  • Listen to stories and music while learning about age-appropriate topics

  • Engage in parachute play, have scavenger hunts & flashlight dances, hear stories and dance

  • Make potions, sensory bottles, play dough, & oobleck

  • Explode volcanoes, watch water travel, dissolve fossils, save animals from ice, plant funny grass heads, and build habitats

  • Celebrate lots of holidays—We have parties for Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, and Easter. The teacher brings special treats and plans extra special activities for our celebrations!

  • We visit Walnut Woods Independent Living and have a Halloween parade for the residents

  • When the weather is nice, we sometimes meet at the Franklin Street Mini Park. It is fenced in and all equipment is perfect for our little ones. It always seems empty at our class time, so very safe and private.

  • Toddlers play with blocks in a room with brightly colored rugs and furniture.

Ms. Jenni is a dream for helping to start your little one’s educational journey off in the most caring and engaging way!! We were lucky to have Ms. Jenni in our lives over the past 3 years for our two little ones. She is a constant force of kindness and understanding. She brings positive energy to every class and is magic in connecting with the kids and creating the cutest lessons and activities. She pours her heart into this job and it’s absolutely evident in every interaction with her. Any kids that get an opportunity to share time with Ms. Jenni are so fortunate, and we’re happy to say that we’re part of that crew!

  • A child paints on a canvas using brightly colored paint.

Ms Jenni takes the time to create purposeful and thoughtful lessons for each of her classes/camps-through hands on activities, music, play, and more. She is flexible and accommodating for kiddos, especially ones that have never been in a school-like setting. Our daughter LOVED going to the parent and me class and was able to learn and grow before sending her off to day care. We will definitely be sending her to camps in the future!

  • Toddlers explore a sensory bin bull of beans and toys during Busy Bees class in Boyertown PA.

Ms. Jenni is beloved by our entire family! Her parent and me class allowed for social, emotional and educational growth in a nurturing, relaxed atmosphere with no pressure put on caregivers or children to be anything other than themselves. I cannot say enough good things about Ms. Jenni or our experiences with her. I would highly recommend the class to anyone with little ones looking to get out of the house and build friendships for themselves and their child, all while fostering exploration and curiosity in their child.
